Junior League provides scholarships to Sandhills Community College.
2009-2010 Fall Scholarship Recipients
Cynthia is a 48-year-old single mother of two children. Her daughter is starting her third year at N.C. State, and her son is in his first year there. Her goal as a single parent was to get her children to college. She has attended Sandhills Community College full-time for the last two years while working at Mac’s and at Olive Garden. Cynthia is working toward a degree in Nursing. She states, “I am well on my way to achieving this goal, and thanks to the scholarship I have been able to purchase all the necessary supplies that I needed for this semester without struggling.” She currently has a 3.61 Cumulative GPA.
Kimberly is the mother of three children and is owner/operator of Clean As A Whistle, a housecleaning service. She is enrolled in college transfer/education, and plans to eventually transfer to St. Andrews to complete her bachelor’s degree. She has taught preschool and enjoys working with children. She is the president of the Southern Pines Elementary PTA and volunteers at her church. This scholarship is allowing Kimberly to stay in school.
